A statistical defect limit used in sampling inspection to decide whether a production lot is accepted.

[01]

AQL (Acceptance Quality Limit) is a method for deciding on a production lot based on randomly selected samples rather than checking every unit. It is based on standards such as ISO 2859-1 and ANSI/ASQ Z1.4.

The lot size and chosen inspection level determine the sample size. Defects are usually classified as critical, major and minor, each with its own acceptance limit. If the number of defects in the sample exceeds the limit, the lot is rejected or re-evaluated.
